Flooding

The basement is flooded. I started to go out this morning to work, but, upon noticing that there was a small river of water coming from the basement ceiling, I decided that I would do the much more fun work of bailing out water from the lake that had appeared on the floor. Yay. And then, after there was enough water cleared to see the floor, mom and I put down pails and towels.

My kids are days behind, and I'm hopelessly annoyed.

The initial panic's faded -- we decided to turn off both the water and the heat, since it's not clear whether the radiator or the pipes have broken -- and now just to wait for the plumber.

Oy.

I remember when our pipes burst and the basement flooded in the moldy mansion... not fun. I did a lot of swearing, and then we managed to turn the water off and called a plumber. If it looks like it will be a few days, the best thing to do is not stress, and find a friend who will let you borrow a shower.

Thanks, all! :)

An update: tired, but the busted pipes have now been replaced. Wet things have been either moved or thrown out (including, sadly, childhood photos). Mopped, did laundry to clean up towels. Now must go to class. Blah.

That's not cool about the childhood photos, not cool at all. *hugs* Good luck w/ the cleanup.
