I am terrible at dieting, apparently, because I really, really want to make cupcakes. Mint cupcakes, like the kind we had when visiting Jenn and Jet.

I intend to use a generic golden cake recipe and throw it into cupcake liners, and then make up something as far as the peppermint frosting goes.

Should I use a cream cheese base or stick with safe buttercream? Because I'm not sure how the mint and cream cheese flavors will go. On the other hand, cream cheese frostings always seem less sugary and more spreadable.

I'm always a little nervous about baking because the chemistry of gluten binding to fat and air bubbles and such seems very mysterious and magical to me. However, I am consoling myself: at worst, I'll give away less-tasty cupcakes to homeless people. It gives a whole new meaning to making the poor obese!

Anyone want to joint Neil and I in our insanity on Sunday Saturday Sunday?

Neil Gaiman once wrote that there wasn't a word for that feeling you get when you look at someone you used to love, and remember how it was.

I thought maybe "solestalgia" would be right, and [livejournal.com profile] osirusbrisbane suggested the simpler "lostalgia" as a counter, but neither quite gets the "love" notes in there. Ideas?
