... Things that are silly include me. I mean, normal people, when they get an email from a family friend saying "I'd like to hire you for a massage," don't panic. I got training for this. I'm competent. But I'm nervous anyway. I need to find one of those hourly rental places -- the places that charge you $25 an hour, so that you can give a massage in a decent space that isn't your own apartment (which is a mess, and is always crowded). I need to come up with business cards.

And Neil is gone for a conference, and somehow that not only makes me sad, but more panicky.

A more cheerful post to try to balance out the blah of the previous one:

  • First interview (at upscale midtown gym) went okay, although I think I blew it at the end, by shaking hands with the manager's manager with a somewhat massage-lotion covered hand. Oops. But at least I got my act together enough to do some applying, though there's obviously a great deal more to do.

  • Neil and I made chocolate chip cookie dough before he left, and the dough is sitting in the freezer, waiting for me to take it out and then bake it. We used the spiffy brand-new KitchenAid mixer my uncle got me, and Graeme's awesome cookie racks (which really do cool cookies off much faster than just leaving them on the cookie sheet, where you have to pry them off with some force). This is awesome.

  • The kitchen is clean. This is also awesome.

  • I need to find a macro lens at some point, because even though no one ever took macro photos that were Great Art (it's just not possible, I don't think), macro photos are cool. And you can sometimes double using them as portrait lenses. And there's a contest on the KoL (game) forums that asks for the best macro photo, for a million game-dollars :) I'm feeling sillily up to it.

Jenn, Ryan, any recommendations on lenses?

  • Hey, there was enough money in the checking account after wedding stuff to pay rent this month, even after all the crazy expenses after wedding and Chicago. W00t! The lens might be pushing it, but I think we can do it.

  • I'm even thinking about going to edit photos. It feels like a drag, especially because I never feel like my photos are any good, but it occasionally makes me happy afterwards to look at it all.
