Funniest moment from the amazing dinner that was my birthday present from [livejournal.com profile] kizlj and [livejournal.com profile] aussie_nyc:

Neil, wide-eyed, coming back from the bathroom -- "Kim, they have little sinks in the stalls. And TVs that show poker playing above the urinals. Not that I've ever had the urge to watch poker while I peed..."

Tastiest moment:

My entree -- roast duck, which had a flavor of woodsmoke and something wild that I couldn't place. A vaguely soy-and-sweet sauce.

Surprising moment:

My dessert -- chocolate mousse that was incredibly light and airy, but so filled with chocolate I thought I'd eaten a brick of seriously-dark chocolate right there. A lovely shock. But I had a very nice mango tea and raspberry sorbet to go with it.

Thank you lots, Stacy & David!

You just made me drool again in memory. I never did get to bake with you :( I wish I could -- I hope you're having fun back in Brazil.

fun and frustration... i´ve managed to take a couple of good pictures, at least. that is, i was taking pictures until i received the challenge from renata:
"São Paulo really is beautiful. It just has to learn to be seen."

Damned if I can figure out how to get it to be seen.

Anyway, I am a terrible baker. My mother is the baker. I have problems with recipes and anything that is really fussy. Seriously, though, I was once forced to make the mousse for Helgagrace and it apparently turned out really well--which must mean that that Joy of cooking recipe is really easy.

I do make a mean whole wheat tortilla, though. I had to learn that skill to go along with my refried beans, of course... Hopefully I will find time for both this weekend.

hah, refried beans -- a dining hall favorite. I've never had them outside of that.

as for showing off sao paulo... it's a longterm project. You can set up different sets for different aspects of it: people, colors, abstracts with curves that sound like the language, secret dens, etc. And then invite us to the show...
