Adopt a Jeni
Jun. 15th, 2009 08:32 pmMy oldest friend Jeni is looking for a full-time job in NYC. She's been having trouble because a few years back, she broke her ankle, and it was never rehabbed properly. I've done what I could with some very fast on the spot fixes, but she is never going to be able to stand for hours at a time. She's very bright, and very patient, and organized in a way that most people never manage to achieve. She was pretty high level running some small non-profits and getting funding for them. She is dedicated. She is sharp. She is good at getting people to do what she wants them to do, including evil customer service folk. She is not a fast typist, nor is she perfect at Word/Excel, so she is not a good data monkey, but currently she is essentially running the office of the doctor that we both work for. We get a lot of insane clients, and while I wouldn't know how to deal with some crazy high-as-a-kite guy who came in screaming that "the bitch is just after my money," she managed to nod and smile and get him back out of the office.
Any ideas as to where she should look? (Today I came in and she was crying on her desk, quietly, where Dr. Cohen -- who has tunnel vision, I swear -- couldn't hear her. Dr. Cohen had cut her hours, because in times of economic recession, at least initially, fewer people get divorced. Divorce is an expensive process that people will initially try to suffer through. Anyway, that means she's having a hard time with bills, because she's supporting both herself and her husband -- he is making his way through nursing school.)
