Book meme again

Tagged by [livejournal.com profile] sir_graeme (which I guess I'm flattered by, even if a little groan)

1) Total number of books owned: about 600 or so, judging by the bookshelves. Mostly fantasy; some poetry and cookbooks and young adult fiction, too.

2) The last book I bought:

The Stardancers, by Spider and Jeanne Robinson, at a used bookstore, since it's such a very excellent book.

3) The last book I read:

Girls in Pants, by Ann Brashares. It's a beautiful book, and made me think about when I was going away to college, and how good friends are to each other. Like its prequel, _Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants_, the story is about love and the bravery it takes to really embrace love. The love of friends for each other - that's straightforward enough, although it'll be tested. The love for yourself, to decide that you want to go to Art school over your parents' wishes; the love for your family, when you fear what going away means; those were harder loves. I liked the book a lot, needless to say.

4) Five books that mean a lot to me:

Book that my high school English teacher gave me, on graduating: his book of poems, to "Kimberly, writer in the making"
Book that I loved as a kid: Heroes and Gods of Greek mythology
Book I bonded with Jess over, long ago: Arrows of the Queen, by Mercedes Lackey, and the other 2 in the trilogy.
Books that I've loved lately: Animal Dreams, by Barbara Kingsolver, and Sunshine, by Robin McKinley. (Matt was reading me Sunshine a few days ago, actually)
Book that was somewhat worldshaking: The Cloister Walk, by Kathleen Norris
Book that I cried over recently: Night, by Elie Wiesel

Okay, I cheated.

Oh, stupid memes :P This is strictly OPTIONAL, people, if you're reading.

There, that wasn't so bad, was it? :-) I rather like your answer to #4.
